Smith Sharpe (Lenoir-Rhyne, 1988) is the most prolific tackler in the 102-year history of Lenoir-Rhyne Football. Sharpe ranks No. 1 on the all-time list in career tackles with 431 and is one of just two players in program history to record more than 400 career tackles. Sharpe’s 163 tackles in 1986 ranks as the second-most in a single season and his 132 in the 1985 is the tenth-most. Sharpe was a two-time All-Conference performer (1985 and 1987) and was team captain in 1986 and 1987. Sharpe was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year (1985 and 1987) and helped turn the program from a 1-win team as a freshman to a 7-4 record during his senior season. On top of his on-the-field accomplishments, Sharpe was the first two-time Academic All-American in Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics history.Â
