Hume Collins is a 1958 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne where he played football for the Bears from 1954-1957. Â While at L-R, Collins earned All-State, All-District and All-Conference accolades while playing at the end position for Head Coach and Hall of Famer Clarence Stasavich. Â Collins served as team captain for the Bears' 1956 North State Conference Championship Team. Â During his career, the Bears went an impressive 29-9-3, including the 10-0 season of 1956. Â A four-year starter, Colllins made 34 catches for 516 yards and three touchdowns on teams who predominantly ran the ball. Â After graduation, he worked at Burlington Industries, Inc.., from 1959-64. Â The Hickory, N.C., native also served as VP of Human Resources for Shuford Mills, Inc., and served on the Hickory Recreation Commission. Â Hume was also a past member of the Lenoir-Rhyne Alumni Board of Directors.
