John M. Moretz was a starting defensive back and wide receiver for Lenoir-Rhyne (1971-1972). Moretz led the 1972 Bears' Football Team in receptions, yardage and received the Sportsmanship Award.  After graduating from LR, Moretz joined his father, C. Hugh Moretz, at Moretz Mills that led to the founding of Moretz Sports in 1978.  Moretz Sports became one of the leading sport sock companies in the United States with their brand PowerSox and exclusive sock license programs with the NFL, NBA, NASCAR and Major League Baseball.  Clients have included Kathy Ireland, John Elway, Reggie Bush and Ronnie Lott.  John and his wife, Marilyn, gave the founding gift for the development of the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
