Starting in 1955, Goodman served as the L-R team physician and as a medical consultant for the athletic program.  A 1947 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne, Goodman attended the University of Tennessee Medical School and served active duty in the United States Air Force as Flight Surgeon before opening a private practice in 1954.  Goodman was the official attending physician for the 1959, 1960 and 1962 NAIA National Championship football games and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Lenoir-Rhyne Alumni Association from 1963-79.  He received the Lenoir-Rhyne Trustee Award in 1983 and is an Honorary Life member of the Piedmont Educational Foundation.
