C.A. Frye was Lenoir-Rhyne's first-ever prolific passer from out of head coach Clarence Stasavich's Single-Wing offense. Many of the records he set throwing the ball are still listed among the school's top-10 lists. Â After playing four years of football, a period when the Bears posted a 26-12-2 record, Frye played one year of baseball. Â He compiled a 7-0 pitching mark in 1951, a season that saw the Bears finish 15-4. Â Upon conclusion of the 1951 baseball campaign, Frye graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne. Â He then played one summer of professional baseball with the Hickory Rebels before entering graduate school at the University of North Carolina. Â Frye received his Master's Degree in Education in 1954. Â He started his outstanding coaching career in 1952 at Troy High School, an endeavor that lasted 39 years. Â Coaching primarily football, basketball and baseball, Frye recorded a 619-269-6 record directing programs at Pfeiffer College (1953-56), Burlington High School (1956-70), Gibsonville High School (1970-71) and Statesville High School (1971-91).
