F.D. "Jack" Kiser set an example of all-around excellence throughout his long career as a student-athlete and educator-coach. Â The Lincolnton retiree has a remarkable record of success in many fields of endeavor. Â As a Lenoir-Rhyne athlete, Kiser played football, basketball and baseball. He was captain of the basketball team in 1929 and the football team in 1930, his senior year. Â In addition to his effort on the field and court, Kiser was an outstanding student. Â He served as vice president and president of the student body and was voted Best All-Around Boy in 1929 and 1930. Â Following his Lenoir-Rhyne graduation, Kiser taught, coached and served as principal at Cherryville, Bessemer City and Lincolnton High Schools. Â The bulk of his career - some 27 years - was spent at Lincolnton, where he won lasting respect, not only as a highly-successful coach, but also an outstanding educator. Â For most of those 27 years at Lincolnton, Kiser coached football, basketball and baseball. Â From 1945 to 1961, his women's basketball teams were a real power, winning 236 games against only 15 losses. Â During that time, they captured 13 conference, eight tournament and two state championships.
