Mike McRee was a three-time all-conference player between the years of 1967 and 1970.  Chosen as a Lutheran All-American in 1970, he established a school record with 5,544 total yards of offense, which still ranks second all-time in school history.  McRee still is listed among the top ten Bears in almost every career passing statistic.  McRee was also an accomplished punter, posting a career average of 48.2 yards per kick.  His 83-yard punt versus Catawba is a school record that still stands.  An excellent athlete, McRee also received all-conference accolades twice in baseball.  He was the school's Student Body President during the 1970-71 academic year and an annual member of the Dean's List.  Since his graduation from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1971, McRee earned his Master's of Education from Winthrop in 1975 and spent almost an entire career in education.  McRee was elected to the Catawba County Board of Education in 1987.
