Thomas Brown was a standout performer on some of the college's greatest football teams.  He debuted as a Bear during Clarence Stasavich's final year at the school (1961) and was a vital member of Lenoir-Rhyne teams that finished 8-1-1 in 1961 and 11-1 in 1962.  Brown led the Bears in passing as a freshman and in total offense as a senior.  Upon his 1965 graduation, Brown began what would become a legendary prep coaching career.  Brown's career high school record is 365-140-7 and includes stints at Maiden, Bunker Hill and East Burke High Schools.  Brown is also in four hall of hames total including the Catawba County and North Carolina High School Athletic Association.   Maiden's high school stadium was named in his honor in 1992.
