Jack Huss graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1969, where he played his collegiate career for head coach and L-R Hall of Famer Hanley Painter. Â Huss, a Rutherfordton, N.C., native, graduated from L-R as one of the Bears' best quarterbacks holding several of the school's passing records when he graduated. Â During his playing career, the Bears went 28-9 and captured four Carolinas Conference Titles. Â He was a four-year letterman in both football and baseball and was the 1968 recipient of the Football Academic Award. Â Huss returned to his alma mater in 1972 where he served as an assistant football coach with the Bears before taking over the L-R helm in 1974 where he coached for six seasons. Â In 1975, Huss' Bears went 7-3-1 and captured the inaugural SAC Football Championship. Â Huss taught at R-S Central High School for many years and served as athletic director, head football coach and head golf coach. Â Huss also coached at Hunter Huss and Richmond Senior High School and has officiated high school basketball games for over 40 years. Â Huss was inducted into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame in 2014 and has been the Bears' Football Color Analyst since 2003.
