Dick Lage was a key member of the Lenoir-Rhyne football powerhouses from 1957 to 1960. Lage earned first-team NAIA All-American honors at end during the Bears' national championship season in 1960 and was a 12th-round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League in '61. The Bears were 38-4-2 during Lage's grid career and won four league titles in the four years. Following his graduation in 1961, Lage was a successful college assistant coach. He served as a graduate assistant at East Carolina and then at Frederick College in Virginia, the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia. Richmond won a couple of Southern Conference titles during his time there and he had stints as defensive coordinator both at Richmond and at UVA. Lage was also a highly-successful realtor for Hasbrouck and Graham Realtors.
