Marisa Carmody (Lenoir-Rhyne, 1983) was a three sport athlete (women’s basketball, softball and volleyball) and was named Team MVP for all three sports during the 1982-83 academic year. During her four years on the LR women’s basketball team, the squad compiled a record of 87-32 to go along with three NCAIAW State Championships (1980-82). The 1980 team won a school-record 28 games while the 1981 squad earned a berth in the national semifinals. Carmody ranks ninth in rebounds (626) and eighth in rebounding average (7.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (.508) on the Bears’ career lists. Carmody, who earned her master’s degree in 1995 from South Florida, spent time teaching English in Venezuela and made trips throughout South America. Carmody was the 2005-06 Teacher of the Year at Freedom High School in Tampa, Fla., and currently serves as the school’s athletic director.
