Once Brian Bryson stepped onto the football field at Lenoir-Rhyne, it took just three games for him to be named starting quarterback, and he continued as the starter for the rest of his college career. Â At the end of the season, he was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year. Â Improving with each successive season, Bryson became the LR career leader in passing yards, completions, touchdown passes and total offense. Â He still ranks high on the all-time Lenoir-Rhyne list for yardage in a season in the categories of total offense, passing yards and pass completions. Â With such statistics, it is not surprising that he garnered a variety of postseason recognition. Â He was named to the All-District Team three times and earned all-conference honors twice. Â For two years, he was designated as the LR Offensive MVP and in 1987 was named the team MVP. Â He was elected team captain in both his junior and senior years. Â He was also a star in the classroom, having been named an Academic All-American three times. Â After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1988, Bryson served as a graduate assistant football coach during the fall football season at Lenoir-Rhyne. Â He then accepted a position in the Jackson County Schools as a biology teacher and football and baseball coach. Â He served in those capacities until 1999, when he retired from his coaching duties.
