Once Brian Bryson stepped onto the football field at Lenoir-Rhyne, it took just three games for him to be named starting quarterback, and he continued as the starter for the rest of his college career.  At the end of the season, he was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year.  Improving with each successive season, Bryson became the LR career leader in passing yards, completions, touchdown passes and total offense.  He still ranks high on the all-time Lenoir-Rhyne list for yardage in a season in the categories of total offense, passing yards and pass completions.  With such statistics, it is not surprising that he garnered a variety of postseason recognition.  He was named to the All-District Team three times and earned all-conference honors twice.  For two years, he was designated as the LR Offensive MVP and in 1987 was named the team MVP.  He was elected team captain in both his junior and senior years.  He was also a star in the classroom, having been named an Academic All-American three times.  After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1988, Bryson served as a graduate assistant football coach during the fall football season at Lenoir-Rhyne.  He then accepted a position in the Jackson County Schools as a biology teacher and football and baseball coach.  He served in those capacities until 1999, when he retired from his coaching duties.
