Aubrey Cochran (Lenoir-Rhyne, 1967) lettered four years on the L-R Men’s Basketball Team (1964-67) and finished his career with 1,151 points, which now ranks 33rd on the Bears’ all-time scoring list. As a senior in 1966-67, Cochran earned all-conference, all-district and all-league tournament honors in leading the Bears to a 20-8 mark overall. Cochran was also a two-year captain for the Bears (1966-67) and helped L-R compile a 67-43 mark during his career. Cochran, who coached two seasons at Belmont (now South Point) High School (Belmont, N.C.) in 1967-68 & 1968-69, worked for IBM and Lexmark International in sales and marketing for over 30 years before retiring. Cochran was also chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympic Games and was a two-time IBM and Lexmark National Sales Representative of the Year (1995 & 2005). Cochran and his wife, Jeanne, who are retired and living in Beaufort, S.C., have one daughter (Michelle) and two grandchildren (Caroline & Jack).
